What the experts say

the verge logo

8 /10

The Verge felt the Sonos Beam was a competent all-around smart speaker that has an attractive design that would work well in a "grown-up" living room. The music sound quality, however, is only average.

8 /10

Pocket-lint was not in agreement about sound quality, saying the Sonos Beam had great sound quality whether you are watching TV or listening to music. It isn't held back by its small size and manages to deliver an expansive sound (though at lower volumes it can struggle).

toms guide logo

8 /10

Tom's Guide liked the sound too and complimented the wide soundstage of the Sonos Beam, though they did think that the bass lacked detail. The mass of features, including Alexa voice support, was listed as a pro. The lack of Bluetooth is, however, an oversight.

Love the compact size and most importantly the sound. Definitely an improvement over my oled TV speakers.

Had to return it. I have a Panasonic TV, don’t know whether it was the soundness or the tv at fault, but took me ages to connect the two then for some reason the sounded disconnected and I couldn’t get them paid again. Gave up and returned it, sounded great for the few minutes it was connected though.

Sound is good don't get me wrong but not worth £400 over TV speakers - I've got an LG 47" Smart TV that's about 5 years old - the only difference is the bass. I'm a bit obsessed with my TV sound quality - if you want good surround sound then buy surround sound speakers simple as that. A soundbar cannot deliver that. Best way to describe it is like being offered a ride in a Ferrari and ending up driving a 3 wheeler with go faster stripes. Sorry Sonos. You're still better than Bose though lol.

Set up using Sonos app.. Worked all of a day then stopped working and then sound would come through for a second then cut out repeatedly. Went onto forums and turns out a common fault. Tried all the answers given by Sonos and other users and still same result. Splashed out on 4k Hdmi and still the same, and more money wasted. Returned immediately and refund given.

Great device with a great design no need for subwoofer, will add a couple of Sonos SL speakers at a later date for full surround :)

Great overall sound and crystal clear, One of my biggest problems while watching TV was speech, if someone was whispering or talking low I could never make out what they were saying, on the Sonos app you can turn on speech enhancement, it works brilliantly, you can definitely hear speech far better, now watching I can watch TV and hear every word, Thank you Sonos.

The Sonos Beam will certainly be loud enough for most people as it improves on the poor speakers in flat screen tv’s. Audiophiles wanting more bass can add the subwoofer, although it’s not cheap it’s definitely worth it. It has Amazon Alexa built in which has lots of functionality, a great soundbar for anyone wanting to improve the sound of their flatscreen tv and it looks really nice too!

New tv needed a new sound bar. Previously had a Samsung with seperate bar and sub. This blows it out of the water. Great for music and tv content alike. The built in Alexa is neat to and has helped us automate the tv control and the downstairs lighting. The unit provides plenty of bass for normal viewing so I don’t think the sub is required.
