Samsung UE50TU7100 Review

TechRadar called the TU7100 a bonafide bargain providing vibrant picture quality, all the benefits of the Tizen smart platform and low input lag for gaming. HDR performance isn’t quite up to the levels you would expect from a more expensive TV and the speakers are disappointing. TechRadar also suggests turning off Samsung’s image interpolation feature to improve performance.

T3 was very impressed that despite its cheaper price the TU7100 doesn’t skimp on picture quality. It was awarded a platinum award for providing the best picture quality they have seen at this price, although it is not without its niggles. Most annoying, it only has two HDMI ports, but it also can be a bit sluggish to respond to commands and audio quality is a little disappointing.

Pros: decent value for money with good image quality. The sound is better than I expected but a sound bar is still required to maximise the experience.
Cons: ADS! THERE ARE ADS BAKED INTO THE FIRMWARE OF THIS TV!Had I known this before purchase I would certainly have purchased a different product. I will not buy Samsung again.

Pros: Easy to set up and use. The tv is very light and easy to fix to wall bracket.
Cons: The image quality is poor at times. When the tv is switched on the image is very poor, the colour quality is distorted with a yellow tinge. We then have to switch the tv off at the socket and reboot to correct the fault.

Great value
TV has excellent picture quality. Whilst I appreciate its not an OLED TV for this price, the LCD colour gamut and range is very good at this price. Although it used HDR10+ gives a good high-to middle dynamic range, it does struggle to lift the details from dark shadow areas. But you'd probably not notice most of the time. The remote control looks like standard Samsung with introduction of buttons for Amazon Prime, Netflix and Rokuten. The Roku (Now TV) has to be set up for source, but I found it to be a bit hit 'n' miss in recognising signal from an external box. It only has 2 HMDI sources, so if you have a lot of kit, you may need an HDMI switcher. It has a USB port (for playback from memory or disk drive). The HDMI 1 port is also an Audio Return Connection (ARC) to A/V devices such as a 5.1 sound amp or soundbar such that you can plug your Sky box or Now TV box into your A/V amp or Soundbar and have sound recognised from the box or from the TV. The terrestrial TV guide looks better than most with a multi-channel timeline and info. The sound Quality is quite good. The speech is very clear and there is also a decent amount of bass. There is also an adaptive mode for cinema surround style and amplify for compressing the sound to improve dialogue. The TV legs are tough plastic and just woide enough to give it a centre of gravity for the height. If you prefer wall mounted then the VESA holes for this model is 200mm spacing both Horizonal and Vertical and uses 4x M8 screws of 20-22mm shaft. Overall very pleased. Watching 'One Planet' on Netflix had some jaw dropping images. :-)

Disappointing from Samsung
After purchasing several Samsung TVs and being more than happy with them I have to say that this is the first to disappoint. It does so on several levels. Cosmetically it looks cheap. Okay, it is relatively cheap, but my previous 'cheap' model had a far better finish and more substantial stand (rather than two Airfix-plastic type plug in feet). The remote is so lightweight as to be insubstantial, and pressing up/down left/right keys once often causes two or more jumps in highlighted items. Second, the operating system. Slow and clunky. I liked the OS in other Samsungs because it was quick and efficient, with immediate feedback. On this set you can press a menu item and wait, sometimes, up to five seconds for a response. And a black SmartTV apps background makes it difficult to see the status - you can't tell whether you have selected an item or not until you switch to one either side. Terrible ergonomics. I think they have tried to create an operating system that does too much with too little on board memory. Select YouTube, for example, and you often get no thumbnails until you refresh the screen a couple of times. Finally picture quality. Good. Most of the time. Occasionally - but enough to be really annoying - I get the flashing reported by others. It can be changed by selecting another channel or app but it should not happen at all. Believing this set to be faulty I had it replaced (without question) by John Lewis but the replacement is just as bad. I think this is simply a case of a commoditised product that has been built on the cheap. Good profit for Samsung now, but I'm unlikely to buy another Samsung. Ever.

This product has great features
I have never had a flat screen TV. I absolutely LOVE this TV. I have it in my bedroom attached to a wall mount . It has great picture quality! Clear and sharp. It's ideal for watching all movies. I love watching U-tube videos and feel I'm right there at the concert. The images look so clear and better than your average TV. Great for watching sports and action movies too. The display shows high color accuracy and such a perfect contrast. The picture is virtually blur-free. I love the bright colors and high contrast. I can see it works well in any room. It's like looking at a full array of deeper dark and richer colors. The images look lifelike. I am very, very happy with this purchase. For a high quality TV this was not only a affordable price that I will probably purchase another smart TV for another room in the future. With the pandemic I have been glued to watching so many movies on Netflex. I highly recommend anyone to purchase any Samsung Smart TV. You won't be disappointed!

This TV does all I want!
I wanted to upgrade from my 42" supermarket branded TV but did not want to pay the earth. This TV is perfect and great value. Picture quality is superb and all I need - I'm not prepared to pay for OLED! The sound quality is great - better than my old sound bar and at times seems to give surround sound effect. Telephone staff gave helpful pre-sale advice and delivery was far quicker than initially advised, and I received it in less than a week from ordering. Delivery driver was helpful and friendly. The apps are easy to find and load. In all I'm very happy with my new Samsung TV.
