CNET was reserved about the Ionic. It has strong battery life, good health tracking features (including GPS) and an array of features. It also benefits from being part of the Fitbit community, meaning you get a really strong companion app. However, it doesn't quite work as a smartwatch. Some features, like on wrist music, are hard to set up and the software feels buggy. You will also need to check that the wrist payment feature is compatible with your bank. They reckon that you should try out the Fitbit Versa model unless you absolutely have to have GPS tracking built in.

6 /10

Trusted Reviews was impressed by the Ionic as a fitness tracker and it boasts an impressive screen that doesn't come at the cost of battery life. It's also pretty comfortable to wear. On the downside, the operating system can be slow and there's a shortage of apps.

The Verge had a different take, praising the compatibility with third-party apps and the intuitive user interface. They also loved the inclusion of GPS and battery life. However, as a smartwatch it doesn't rate very highly.

Great watch for biking. I had a Fitbit charge 2 hr. this does everything it does and much more. Best thing is the built in gps which means I don’t need to risk taking my phone to track route in Strava. Waterproof means now worries in heavy rain when biking. Would def recommend this, considered other brands but familiarity with Fitbit app and interface meant this was an easy replacement and upgrade to my charge HR.

3rd attempt. Can you please tell me why you won't publish my review? It is a completey honest account of my experience with this product. It lasted 3 days. The first time I took it swimming it completely died, clearly a problem with the seal. When I took it back 2 Argos, fully boxed w/the receipt I was told it was only rated as water resistant & is not meant for swimming. No explanation as 2 why its rated as "swim proof" on the Argos description & has a swimming mode! I was then told it is A

Great watch. Very light and comfortable to wear continuously. Wear it to bed every night and does’t disrupt my sleep. Great for the gym as it doesn’t slip about my wrist and accurately records heart rate while exercising. I was able to transfer music from my Mac to watch easily so can listen to music via the watch with Bluetooth headphones which saves having to carry my phone about the gym. Can also get notifications on my watch with WhatsApp, Facebook and messages and calls from my phone.

I hesitated to purchase a smartwatch but now wish I had done it sooner. This ticks all the boxes for apps, music, waterproof, ease of use. Love that I can sync Strava and use for multiple sports. Would be good to have a slightly smaller ladies version but the design allows it to fit well on a small wrist. Well done Fitbit!!! The battery life far exceeds your best competitor. Now just needs more apps please and UK banks to join the wallet.

Great fitness watch, but it does need the Fitbit phone App to work properly. For an example, the watch face cannot be changed without it. The App is free on Android and iOS. The display is also easy to read in daylight.
